Alaska’s Tongrass National Forest is the largest in the U.S.

The wealth and economy of Alaska are based largely on its natural resources. Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay is the largest oil field in North America. Accounting for more that 25% of all oil produced in the U.S., Alaska’s main pipeline transports up to 88,000 barrels of oil per hour over 800 miles to Valdez.

Alaska’s commercial fishing industry leads the nation, with most of the country’s salmon, crab, herring, and halibut coming from the area. The fishing and food processing industries are the largest private industry in the state providing the majority of Alaskans with direct employment.
